Granby Masonic Lodge

City/Town:
Location Class:
Built: 1901 | Abandoned: N/A
Status: Private Property
Photojournalist: Billy Wade

This grand structure sits in downtown Granby bearing above its entrance the date of its construction ‘1901’ and the symbol of the Masons. The two-story building’s second story was always dedicated to house the lodge but the first floors were many different stores over the years. In 1914 this was Clo D.G. Shoes and Gents Furnishings.

Freemasonry is one of the oldest fraternal organizations in the world. It unites men of good character who, though of different religious, ethnic or social backgrounds, share a belief in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of mankind. Freemasonry offers a system or blueprint for the good man to further improve his character and actions through its system of degrees, symbols, and fellowship opportunities.

Lodge #514 AF AM was often intertwined with the community, hosting annual installation of officers, schools of instruction and having a handful of clubs such as Past Matrons Club. It wasn’t shocking that I couldn’t find much historical information on a building where one of the oldest secret societies would have been hosted. So if you know any more information on this location please email us at board@abandonedatlas.com

Currently, the first story of the building serves as Granby City Hall, while the second story is vacant and abandoned. So not all hope is lost for the second story to be repurposed, with the right resources it can still become something great once again!
