Triplett Jail

City/Town:
Location Class:
Built: N/A | Abandoned: N/A
Status: Abandoned
Photojournalist: Elizabeth Kalinka

The Triplett Jail’s history is elusive, unfortunately, this is the case with many of the tiny jails left in the Midwest. Having documented hundred of these jails throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas I see it all too often that I can’t track down a single fact about the jail before me. Most of these jails were built prior to 1930 and abandoned by the 50s and 60s after people got transferred to county jails instead.

The Triplett jail was used mostly for an occasional person who imbibed a bit too much…long before my time. Other than that, it seems to be a novelty to our small town which, at the time of my birth in 1945, was beautiful. The homes and stores are all but gone now. My grandparent’s home is barely standing on Elm Street. It’s one of the last but the more elite part of town still has a few…Klee Avenue. My gr gr grandfather founded the town.
